Central Europe, late 16th century

 

Malleable iron. Square bar with incised, bending terminals; the forged plate hammer in the centre is in the form of a wild man. Circular backplate with engraved and etched griffin heads. Ring mount forged into a wild man’s head. Decorated with grooving.
